The Light Side of the Force was an influence towards goodness, mercy, compassion, healing and the good of others. Proponents of the Light Side aspired to live in peace and harmony with others. The most notable practitioners of the Light Side were the Jedi Order. The Jedi were the guardians of peace and justice in the Galactic Republic.
The Dark Side of the Force was an influence of fear, aggression, and malice with a desire to conquer, subjugate or destroy all living things. The Sith were the most infamous and notable adherents of the Dark Side. The Sith believed that conflict was the only true test of one's character and ability. Conflict forced individuals and nations to grow or die. The avoidance of conflict resulted in weakness and the retardation of strongth growth. The strong were to rule the weak.
